Students pursuing the certificate in event planning may consider transfer opportunities into other business majors. Students can also utilize Career Coach, a resource provided by Bergen, to explore degree programs and corresponding careers. Students are strongly encouraged to consult with Bergen Community College faculty and Career Services as they begin to explore career options. The curriculum provides students with the knowledge and skills needed to pursue a pathway to careers in event planning and management. The certificate in event planning is designed to provide students with the coursework and training needed to enter into the field as an event planner. Students who wish to advance to a two-year degree can transfer all 30 credits into the 60-credit Associate of Applied Science (A.A.S.) degree at Bergen Community College. After learning classroom theory, students then apply their knowledge by planning, preparing, budgeting, executing, and following up from real-life events in student-run restaurant and meeting room settings. The program begins with an introduction to various facets of the event industry where students identify the key areas that base different types of events and venues.
